Optimo Medical AG

Personalized eye care. Swiss made.

Optimeyes is a product of Optimo Medical AG. Optimo Medical AG was founded in 2015 as a  spin-off of Integrated Scientific Services - ISS AG (www.iss-ag.ch) by our CEO Harald Studer.

ISS AG supports med-tech companies in the areas of regulatory affairs, clinical services, engineering support, quality management, and software development. Optimeyes was developed in a shared CTI project (formerly Commission for Technology and Innovation, now InnoSuisse – www.innosuisse.ch) between ISS AG and the ARTORG (artificial organs) Institute of the University of Berne (www.artorg.unibe.ch).

Since the company's founding, our team has been growing constantly. What drives and connects us is our shared passion for eye care, linked with the limitless possibilities of modern digital technologies. Our expert team has been researching the area of corneal biomechanics for years. Thanks to this extensive know-how, we are able to proudly call ourselves globally leading experts in the prediction of eye surgeries. Our numerous awards strengthen our belief that we have our finger firmly on the pulse the times, and that we can achieve great things for patients with our digital twin of the eye.

Our Management Team

Here we introduce you to three members of the management team.

Dr. Harald Studer, CEO

His doctoral thesis at the University of Berne on the simulation of refractive surgery for vision improvement, recognized with the Swiss Medical Cluster Award, laid the basis for the foundation of Optimo Medical AG and Optimeyes in 2012. Thanks to his exemplary expertise in eye care, namely biomechanics, structure, form, and functionality of the human cornea, Harald Studer was awarded several times, most recently with the ZKB pioneer prize 2019. Next to his entrepreneurial role at Optimo Medical, he continues to research and regularly publishes studies and articles around his core topics biomechanics and tomography of the cornea and surgical refractive interventions.

Häru, The climber

Häru prefers to spend his spare time either outdoor or at sport climbing or mountaineering - the higher and more adventurous the better - or indoor in his reading chair with a good book.

If it were possible, Häru would like to sit at a table with Friedrich Nietzsche or Albert Camus, in order to discuss the big philosophical questions or to find answers to the important topics of our time like global warming and social inequality. He would certainly not turn his idols Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, Friedrich Gauss, or the climbing legend Chris Sharma from joining the discussion either.

Elena Businaro, CTO

With her MSc in Biomedical Engineering and her MBA from the University of Torino, Elena Businaro has got the best qualifications to keep research and development at Optimo Medical technologically up to date at all times. Her expert knowledge in computer-assisted drawing (CAD), finite element modelling (FEM) for computer simulations (ANSYS, ABAQUS) and statistical data analysis, as well as her entrepreneurial thinking, make Elena Businaro a crucial part of the Optimeyes vision to successfully combine vision, eye care, and digitalization for the patient.

Elena, The explorer

Elena is also passionate about new technology and their potential to help humankind when clocked off - progress and curiosity drive her, just like her idols Leonardo da Vinci and Albert Einstein.

Elena prefers to spend her free time trying new things out of her comfort zone, in order to, we already guessed it, overcome her own limits time and time again.

Gerhard Jaggi, Project leader

After his MSc studies in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Berne, Gerhard Jaggi first worked in research at Roche before he switched to CITech Components AG, where he perfectioned his core competence, software development. His profound know-how in software engineering, algorithms, and several programming languages are central competences to translate the complex biomechanics of the cornea into an easy-to-use, intuitive software.

Geri, The Paraglider

Geri takes the saying to get some air after hour-long work in front of the computer at face value: Paragliding is his hobby, to fly up in the sky and forget it all for a moment. The mountains and flying, freedom up in the air: these are his big passions.

Thus, it is quite understandable that there is little that annoys him more than bad weather at the weekend. And if he cannot fly, he prefers to dive. Main thing is a change of atmosphere!
